INTEREST OF PUBLIC
Suggestions for popularising the activities of the Wellington Philosophical Society were discussed at the annual meeting of members of the society last evening. Dr. E. Marsden presided over about 30 members. A resolution was carried that it be a recommendation to the council of the society that half an hour be allotted at the commencement of each general meeting for discussion and exhibits of subjects of topical scientific interest. Professor H. B. Kirk moved that general meetings be opened to the general public irrespective of whether they were members or not He suggested that if it were necessary to exclude the public the society could hold special meetings. The motion was lost. i The following officers were elected: —President, Dr. J. H. Henderson; vice-presidents, Dr. P. Marshall, Mr. A. E. Hefford; secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. R. Callaghan; council, Dr. E. Marsden, Mr. L. C. King, Dr. M. Barnett, Mr. F. W. Furkert, Mr. R. E. R. Grimmett, Dr E. Kidson, Dr. J. Warwick, Mr. W. R. B. Oliver, Professor D. M. Y. Somerville, Dr. E. Marsden, and the president of the technological section, who has yet to be elected: auditor, Mr. E. R. Dymock. The society’s representatives on the New Zealand Institute are Professor H. B. Kirk and Dr. E. Kidson.
