Combined Schools Concert VARIED PROGRAMME Many entertaining items were presented by a band of youthful performers at the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Saturday evening, when a combined secondary schools’ . concert was given in aid of funds for the Toe H. Schools’ Section Camp. Boys from Wellington, Rongotai, Scots and Wellesly Colleges were responsible for the programme which went off very smoothly and to the obvious satisfaction of all present. The items presented included orchestral selections, vocal numbers, and two one-act plays and a gymnastic display. The Rongotai College Orchestra, a baud of well-trained and very promising young musicians, under the baton of Mr. Eric L. Meier, were heard in a selection from Bizet’s ‘Carmen,” “Caprice,” by Seredy, Lizst’s famous “Liebestraum,” and a waltz “Balling Leaves,” by Seredy. “Bertram Addresses the Tenants,” a most amusing monologue was very cleverly rendered by J. S. Osborne, of Wellington College, whose easy manner and exceptionally clear diction appealed greatly to the audience. Another monologue, “Girls,” equally amusing, was chosen by R. G. Plant, also of Wellington College. Both performers gave encores in response to persistent applause. Two numbers were well sung by J. S. Martin, of Wellington College, a boy soprano. .A group, of boys from Scots College, under the able direction of Captain J. Duffyj gave an excellent display of gymnastic pyramids. The two plays were “Robin Hood,” by Alfred Noyes, an episode in the life of Robin Hood and his merry men, anil “Alison’s Lad,” by Marie Dix, a dramatic incident in the Civil War of England. The former was acted by Wellesley College boys, under \the direction of Mr. Clement May, and the latter by Wellington College boys under Mr. J. Griffin’s supervision. The cast for “Robin Hood,” the scenic eSfects for which were decidedly novel, was as follow:—
