Rongotai College System TO OPERATE NEXT YEAR . Rongotai College will put into operation next year a system of hiring out text books to pupils, which it is claimed will be a great relief to the pockets of parents. In a report presented to the meeting of the Wellington College Board of Governors this week, the principal of the college, Mr. F. Martyn Renner, stated that beginning next year about £9O from the school activities fund was to be spent in purchasing text books in lots of thirty-six. These would be hired out to the boys for the year at a nominal charge. “The effect of the reduction of cost will be cumulative —that is, it will have the ultimate effect that in three years’ time the cost to the parents of any boy of the upper school will be 5/- per year for the cost of text books," stated the report. “Contrast this with the present expenditure, and it is at once apparent that the relief to the pockets of the parents will be considerable.” It was stated that under the old system English books for the fifth forms for 1933 would cost .13/6, and under the new system-they would cost 6/9 for 1933, 5/- for 1931, 2/- for 1935, and 1/- for 1936. In the fourth forms English books for next year would cost 16/9 ordinarily, and under the new system they would cost 6/- for 1933,' 2/6 for 1934, and 1/- for 1935. Similar reductions obtained in regard to mathematical and science books. Under the new scale boys in the third forms would pay -1/9 instead of 15/9. In the sixth form books which next year would cost £l/9/2 would now cost 7/6. The same principle had been adopted in the lower school.
