HERETAUNGA BOATING
Opening of the Season
Some 200 people were present at the official opening of the Heretaunga Boating Club at the Bctone beach on Saturday. The weather was fine, with a light breeze. Tn performing the opening ceremony, Mr. .1. W. McEwan, the patron, referred to his long association with the club. Boating, he said, was not only a physical exercise; it called for considerable mental concentration, and was also of assistance for life-saving. He concluded by wishing the club every success for the season. Mr. W. Nash, M.P., also wished the club a successful season.
Mr. J. Moffat, representative of the Wellington Provincial Yachting and Motor Boat Association, conveyed the association’s felicitations to the club.
Referring to the difficult times through which the club was passing, Commodore G. Hook expressed the hope that the club would easily “weather the storm.” He considered that it was carrying on well. He concluded by giving a brief review of the club’s activities during the past season.
Mr. McEwan then raised the club's flag, and declared the season officially open.
