DUEL OVER GARBO
ADMIRERS of Miss Greta Garbo, the “star,” waxed furious over recent criticism of her dramatic ability. Now comes news from Provincetown, Massachusetts, of a duel fought in her honour, says the “Daily Mail.” Provincetown is a summer resort of intellectuals of the stage and pen. ed on the Swedish actress, and Mr. McKay remarked, “Garbo is God’s gift to a stricken world.” Mr. Arthur Robinson, a writer, remarked: “If I had anything to do with Hollywood I would cast Garbo in the role of a laundry worker for the rest of her life.” On the studio wall hung two rapiers. When the argument reached its height Mr. McKay challenged Mr. Robinson to a duel. Seconds were chosen, and the party went to the beach. Mr. McKay grazed Mr. Robinson’s neck as the rapiers flashed in the moonlightThen Mr. Robinson, the sceptic, pierced his opponent’s thumb. Honour was declared satisfied, although it was said that Mr. Robinson got in the last word by repeating the one sentence with which Miss Garbo illumines her perpetual silence, “I t’ink I said enough.”
