VILLAGERS PERFORM
yyiTH a deaf rector as producer, the Felton Players, a band of Herefordshire (England) villagers, gave a Shakespearean production recently. They performed the first three acts of “Julius Caesar.” Julius Caesar was played by Mr. T. Godsail, a carpenter: Marcus Antonins by a wagoner, whose wife took the part of Portia. The daughter of a farmer was Caesar’s wife. Other leading parts were taken bj r a schoolmaster, a farmer’s son. and a cowman (says the “News-Chron-icle”). Other villagers taking part included a blacksmith, a stockman, two gardeners, a tractor-driver, the wives and daughters of farm workers, and several children. Many of them made their own costumes. The company was trained by the rector, the Rev. J. 11. C. Eveleigh, whose proficiency at lipreading enables him to detect mistakes.
