SHIPPING RETURNS

Figures for September “FAIRLY SATISFACTORY” “Considering the present conditions of trade, the returns are fairly satisfactory,” said the chairman, Mr. C. J. B. Norwood at last evening’s meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board, in his report on the principal features of the shipping and cargo returns for last month. “The returns for September,” he said, “when compared with those for September, 1931, show that there has been a small increase in the net tonnage of shipping arrivals, while the amount of cargo handled is about the same. “The tonnage of trading vessels arriving amounted to 249,006 net tons, compared with 241,336 net tons. Oil imports decreased by 1600 tons, and timber imports also decreased. Export# to British and foreign ports increased from 6725 tons to 10,623 tons, and wool and hemp shipments increased by 8975 bales.”
