In one of the most sensational and lucrative crimes in recent years a group of expert safe-openers tunnelled into the real estate offices of Koch and Company and eseaped with 1,000,000 dollars after, holding two families in an adjoining house prisoner for over fourteen hours on Saturday afternoon on the pretext that they were officers. The robbers entered the adjoining house and then casually brought in acetylene torches and other equipment, with which they bored through the walls to the vault room office. There, using the company’s index ns a guide, they systematically looted some 350 safety deposit boxes, taking only cash and Ignoring securities and jewellery which were thrown carelessly about.
