“FRANCHISE DAY”
Wellington W.C.T.U. “Franchise Day” was celebrated by the 'Wellington W.C.T.U., a good number of members gathering for a social afternoon. Miss Kirk, J.P., presided, and Mrs. Murray gave a helpful little talk. Owing to the illness of the Carterton president it was decided to hold the next district convention in Wellington at the Constable Street rooms on September 28. Mesdames Murray and Rowe were appointed delegates and a committee was set up to arrange for the luncheon and afternoon tea. Mrs. Chisholm was elected to represent the Wellington union on the National Council of Women, aud Miss Kirk at the Toe H League of Women on September 15 at St. Paul’s Pro-Cathedral. The next meeting will be Cradle Roll afternoon, and special arrangements were made to give the children a happy time. Miss McLean, M.A., gave an interesting address on the benefits of franchise to the women of New Zealand and other parts of the world.
