N.Z. Stock Diseases

Sir,—The other day I tried to procure a veterinary book dealing with all stock troubles and diseases under New Zealand conditions. And I was amazed to find that only one such, book has ever been produced, and that by a New Zealand publishing firm. Surely it would have paid this country handsomely if its Government had caused the veterinary officers of the Department of Agriculture to write a work dealing in simple terms with all troubles likely to. be met with by live stock owners in New Zealand. What is needed is a volume giving as clearly as possible symptoms and the simplest, and most effective treatment, and also, wherever possible, the cause ot the diseases, in order that they may be avoided. I have no hesitation in saying it would be a splendid thing if the Govemment would do this, find send a copy to every farmer in New Zealand free or charge. Everything likely to be, met with should be included; such as poisoning from various shrubs and trees, ana the remedies suggested should be as simple and effective as possible. Most of the veterinary works now obtainable are fa too complicated and technical for the ordinary farmer.-I anR etc., Bushy Park, September 1.
