CRICKET TOURISTS

Australians to Play OneDay Match WELLINGTON GAME Mailey’s Australian cricket eleven, which has just concluded a tour of Canada and the United States, will play a one-day exhibition match at Wellington on September 19. This advice was received by wireless yesterday by Mr. A. Varney, secretary of the Wellington Cricket Association, from V. Y. Richardson, captain of the team, who are passengers by the Monowai. There is doubt as to whether D. G. Bradman, the world’s most famous batsman, will take part in the match at Wellington, and there will be intense disappointment if he does not. Followers of cricket here, however, will be keenly anxious to see S. J. McCabe, the brilliant Sydney all-rounder, whom many consider to be as dashing a batsman as Bradman, and a much better bowler, in action. On the eve of the fights for “The Ashes” between Australia and England, followers on this side of the Tasman will welcome the chance of renewing acquaintance with V. Y. Richardson and Alan Kippax, while they will be keen to see Fleetwood-Smith, the unorthodox Victorian bowler, serving them up to Wellington batsmen. The Wellington Cricket Association has accepted the offer of a one-day match, which will be played on Monday, September 19. A. A. Mailey and H. Carter are not with the party on the Monowai, as they proceed to England from America.
