WORLD-FAMOUS SOPRANO
Amelita GaUi-Curci, the star of the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, who has visited Australia twice within the last seven years and held vast audiences spellbound, has had triumphant receptions at Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney on her present concert totir, and her appearance in Wellington shortly will be an outstanding event of the musical year. No whit less charming in manner or appearance than on her last visit, Madame Galli-Curci, when interviewed recently in Australia, said that to return was like coining home. “The first time it is so different,” she - added. “You know no one, you do not know what the audiences will be like, you have to make your friends. A second time the friends are waiting and the audiences are no longer strangers.” gift for the picturesque phrase that is part of the charm of her personality, Madame Galli-Curci answered “All over God’s creation” to a question where her song had i taken her since her last visit to Australia. She inis sung in China and Japan, in Manila, in Europe, and in South Africa, where she spent two months before coming to Australia. The concerts will take place in the Grand Opera House on Wednesday and Saturday, August 2-1 and 27 The preliminary box plans open to-day under direction of J. and N. Tait.
