MISSIONARY SPIRIT

Baptist Bible Classes GIFTS AT ANNUAL RALLY Held in the Vivian Street Baptist Church last Sunday, the annual missionary rally.was attended by some 130 members of the Wellington and suburban Baptist young women’s Bible classes. Miss Kershaw, president, who was in the chair, explained that the rally was held every year to foster the missionary spirit among the Bible classes and to enable the members to bring their annual gifts for the missions. Miss Kershaw brought to the notice of the members the “Youth for Youth” campaign, to be held in Wellington from September 4 to. 18, and stressed the need of the consecration of each member to the task of winning other’s for Jesus Christ. During the afternoon Miss Olive ■Willis, treasurer, announced that the afternoon’s gifts totalled almost £230. The speaker for the afternoon was Mr. F. W. Martin Taylor, LI. 8., of Auckland, who is leaving this month for China under the auspices of the China Inland (Mission. He urged a fuller consecration on the part of the members, and said that unless Christ was a living reality to each member it was useless to try and serve Him. Three words came to 'his mind that afternoon: “Getting, giving, going.” He mentioned the joy members doubtless had had in getting and giving their gifts, but no joy was comjiarable with that of going along the path of God’s appointing. Jesus Christ was the only one who could give lasting joy and satisfaction amidst dark and trying circumstances.
