WAITING FOR THE GREEN LIGHT. American motorists spend half a lifetime daily waiting for the red traffic light to turn green, according to the American Motorists’ Association. “Three million drivers, waiting an average of only five minutes a day for traffic lights,” the association states, “makes a total waiting time of 27 years each day.” This figure may go as high as 35 rears, the report continues How many millions of gallons of petrol are idled away before red lights annually is beyond caleulatiou. bul the total must represent a fortune every year.
