SPORT AMONG SNOW
Enthusiasts on Tararuas TRIP DURING WEEK-END Encouraged by the recent heavy snows and the prospects of a perfect 7 week-end, over GO Wellington trampers, including the official party of the Tararua Tramping Club, visited Wellington’s winter playground in the Tararuas during the week-end. The seekers of winter sport were fully rewarded and conditions were ideal for ski-ing and tobogganing. The accommodation of Field Hut—the half-way house — was taxed to full capacity in spite of the fact that a large party,-which took advantage of the brilliant moonlight, tramped on to the Kime Memorial Hut. There the party had to “dig-in” to gai: entry, as the hut was half buried in snow. So perfect was the night that moonlight ski-ihg was indulged in until the early hours of the morning. A party decided to make the crossing to Kaitoke on Sunday, but over 40 enthusiasts stayed at the Kime Memorial Hut and had excellent sport on the ski-ing grounds. Large parties have been visiting the Tararuas for many weeks in succession, but the party last week-end was bv far the largest to date.
