Fraser, M.P., addressed a meeting at Carterton last night He criticised the inadequacy of the unemployment wage, and stigmatised the policy of land settlement and the small farm scheme, which he described as futile. He blamed the immigration policy of previous Governments as a cause of the present condition of the country, and Condemned the Government’s Inability to control the financial situation. The education costs had been pared so thinly that' they were now under the minimum. Mr. Fraser strongly criticised the pension cuts and the railway blunders of present and previous Governments. Land settlement was important, and he suggested the development of the land by means of fertilisers purchased by farmers on long-term credit. He urged the construction of roads and Government encouragement and assistance, of all Industries, with reduction of rents and taxes, the establishment of a State bank, and the reorganisation of the banking system and the credit resources. , .
