Wednesbiiry Seat London, July 27. The by-election for the Wednesbiiry seat, due to the elevation of the sitting member, Viscount Ednam, to the House of Lords, resulted. J; Banfield (Lab.) ... 21,977 R. Davis (C.)' 15,198 Majority for Banfield 3,77.9 Labour gain. Mr. Banfield, in a speech following the declaration of the poll, declared that uo doubt a tremendous fillip had been given to Labour by the people’s fear that the Ottawa Conference was going to result in taxation of wheat and meat. The figures for the General Election were: Viscount Ednam, M.C. (C.), 25,000; A. Short (Lab.), 20,842.
