. “As the result of unsatisfactory conditions, and the bad times, I notice that the work of the association has not diminished,” said Mr. C. M. Luke in commenting upon the report of the Applications and Emergency Committee at the meeting of the executive of the War Relief Association of Wellington held yesterday. ■■

The report of that, committee, which was adopted, read as follows:— “The emergency committee has met on 21 occasions since the executive meeting of June 24, and, during that period of 26 working days, dealt with 121 claims, all of which were referred to and confirmed by the applications committee, which met on five occasions and disposed of 236 applications, of which. 58 were claims from those who had not previously approached the fund. There are 80 applications still under action, and the total number of claims received therefore amount to 316. The number of persons who called at the office during the period under review previously mentioned was 466. There has been no alteration in the general activities of the committee. Assistance differing widely in description has been given partially disabled soldiers, to others who were discharged fit and subsequently developed a war disability, to the widowed mothers and widows of soldiers who fell In action, and in other directions that cannot be referred to within the limits of this report.” The finance committee's report set out that the income for June was £155 1/1, and the expenditure £399/5/10, which left £244/4/9 to be debited to the capital account The bank balances stood at £425/0/8.
