CHARITY BALL

In Aid of St. Vincent dd Paul Society ORIGINAL DECORATIONS Organised for the benefit of the funds of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the tenth annual charity ball, held last night in the Town Hall, proved a great success. A large number of debutantes were presented to his Grace Archbishop O’Shea, who was accompanied by the Rev. Dr. Mcßae (president), and by Mrs. lan Duncan and Mrs. H. Johnston.

The main Town Hall was most charmingly decorated with a canopy of green club moss festooned with gay orange and gold Hibiscus powers. Large paper butterflies perched in numbers on the flowers, varying in colour from tangerine to black. Round the halls and pillars moss and flowers were twined, and on the stage, which was ablaze witli richly-coloured lights, were placed two baskets standing six feet high massed with orange ■ Hibiscus flowers, sunflowers, and smaller butterflies.

The foyer was transformed into a bower of moss and native trees, this scheme continuing right up to the concert chamber, where supper was served. Here the decorations were springlike, being in palest pink. On the stage and round the pillars were arranged branches of pink cherry blossom, while on the tables were baskets and silver epergnes of shaded pink poppies. Speci-

ally-arranged baskets of pink poppies were attractively placed on the centre of the debutantes’ fable.. Rudolph’s Orchestra provided splendid music.
