RADIO TRANSMITTERS

Wellington Branch Meets

A meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters was held yesterday in the Dominion Farmers’ Institute, Wellington. Owing to the fact that only 20 persons attended the Easter picnic it was explained that the outing showed a debit of 1/7 instead of the handsome profit anticipated. It was hoped that if such an event was held next year that considerably more would be aldo to attend. Small as was the attendance, prizes to the value of £9/15/- were distributed to the winners of the numerous competitions held during the outing. These prizes were donated fr.ee of all cost by members of the radio trade. “I think,” said the chairman, Mr. R. Slade, "that all those who so generously gave these gifts deserve the thanks of the association.” Some little discussion occurred as to the desirability of the association joining up with the Legion of Frontiersmen, as had been suggested. After the matter had been viewed from every possible angle, it was decided that although the transmitters as a body were prepared to assist the Legion of Frontiersmen in every way during an emergency, the association was not ready to join them officially. In a time of emergency it was pointed out that this willingness to assist would be of considerable value, as it would ensure the .communications of the Legion of Frontiersmen when all others had been destroyed. At the conclusion of the meeting, after light refreshments had been served, a cup was presented by Mr. W. G. Ashbridge to the winner of the recent receiving competition. Mr. 11. C. McCabe (call sign 2IIA). _ Mr. McCabe obtained no Jess than S 5 per cent, in this competition, said Mr. Ashbridge. Considering the very difficult conditions under which reception was made, this was especially commendable. The following new members were elected: Mr. W. G. Mace and Mr. N. A. Steele. Radio emergency certificates were issued to Messrs. J. K. Hooker. R. Slade, IV. A. Wilson. I-’. A. Mi-Neill, It. Carr. B. T. Giles. S. Perkins. W. Jenson, W. G. Turnbull. J. Thompson. IV. Ifimly, I-I. FTcftcr. G. I’, PatchcU, C. G. Liddell, AV. G-. Aehbridgts.
