EMPIRE ECONOMICS
Permanent Secretariat London, March 28. The Dominions, it is hoped by those engaged in making the British Government’s preparations for Ottawa, will respond to the suggestion of establishing, a permanent Empire Economic Secretariat to co-ordinate the work of all Imperial economic bodies. The Federation of British Industries and other important .interests strongly support it, but they consider that preliminary discussions are imperative. It is emphasised that the secretariat would not. iu any way savour of British control, but would be an organisation in which the Dominions would be equal partners. Its prestige would be much greater than by permitting existing organisations to continue separately. The Economic Committee has begun an examination for Ottawa of world wine production, with Empire wines In the foreground, with a view to increasing the quality of sales.
