Series of Sports Contests CORNWALL v. DIOMEDE As the result of a private challenge from flic cadets of the Federal liner Cornwall, one of the training ships of the Federal ami New Zealand Shipping Company’s ileets. to H.M.S. Diomede, a race took place yesterday afternoon between cadets from that vessel ami a crew- of seamen under 20 years of age from tlie Diomede. The course was from Clyde Quay Wharf, where the Diomede was berthed, to Glasgow Wharf, where the Cornwall was berthed. the boats being live-oared service whalers. The race was a keenly contested one, the Cornwall’s cadets winning by about ti length and a half. Cadets of s.s. Cornwall drew with a junior team from H.M.S. Diomede. 8 points all, in a Rugby match played nt Scots College yesterday afternoon. Able-Seaimiti Mncl’ike, scored first for Hie Diomede, bur his try was not converted. Kelly evened the score by going over in the corner, and Chalmers goaled. .Just before half-time. S. Miller (Cornwall l scored from a forward rush, and in the second spell the Diomede gained a further try. which was converted, making the game a d raw. A fencing contest will take place either to-night or to-morrow night between cadets from the Cornwall and men from rhe Diomede in lhe R.N.V.R. drill-rooms.
