Saturday’s Trial Games PREPARING FOR SEASON The Soccer season will open next Saturday with four first, division games, the main games in the city being at the Stadium and at Seatoun. as the Basin Reserve will not be. available until the following Saturday. On Saturday Lower Hutt and Hospital played a trial game on Hutt Recreation Park in which to try the strength of the players, when the newcomers to the first division demonstrated that they have players of merit in the chib and will share with Pctonc in upholding the game in the Hutt. The pace was not forced, but the experience will be helpful when taking the field on Saturday. Diamonds and Marist had a friendly try-out at the Stadium, fielding most of the players who turned out last season. Short practice games were also played bv some of the lower division players at the Stadium earlier in the day. A benefit match, 'Wellington v. H.M.S. Diomede, is to be played at the Stadium next Saturday. The proceeds will go to the wife and children of the seaman of H.M.S. Diomede who was lost overboard on the recent voyage from Sydney.
