Alleged Theft in France

MME. HANAU ARRESTED

Paris, April 8.

It is believed that wheu she was about to publish in her financial weekly paper, “Forces,” details from a secret d.ocument lost from the office of the Minister of Finance, M. Flandin, the police arrested the famous Madame Hanau on a charge of theft of public documents. She is also accused of attempting to depress the Stock Exchange by articles professing to expose the real motive behind M. Tardieu’s Danube plan. It will be recalled that Mme. Hanau was charged with fraud in connection with her “Gazette du France,” and sentenced to two years’ imnrisonment. She had already served eighteen months in prison, and had therefore been released when she lodged an appeal, which is pending. The police have confiscated the issue of “Forces” in which Mme.’ Hanau is said to allege that the Tardieu plan aims at securing loans for the Danube States for the purpose of enriching French armament manufacturers.
