TENNIS FINAL

Combined Doubles Title WELLINGTON v. HUTT Representative Match I‘laying forceful and very accurate tennis, N, K. 0. Wilsou, with his partner, Miss S. Todd, defeated Mr. and Mrs. D. G. France, 2—6, 6—l, 6 —l, in the fiual of the combined doubles championship at Miramar on Saturday afternoon. The event bad been left, undecided at the Wellington association’s Easter tournament. Conditions did not favour tbe players. A troublesome wind made ball-control difficult, and the court was slow after recent rain. Wilson’s play was outstanding.. France and Mrs. France won tbe first set without much difficulty, but once Wilson hud found his best form he and Miss Todd definitely overshadowed their opponents. Wilson’s smashing and volleying were remarkably accurate, and he was serving well, Mrs. France finding it impossible to make any effective return. Tn the last set bis errors were negligible. Except for Wilson's occasional tendency to take tbe ball off his partner's racket, the winners’ combination was good. France is not an outstanding combined player, and bis play ou Saturday, although redeemed by one or two flashes of brilliance, lacked enterprise. Both Mrs. France and Miss Todd played steady tenuis, the latter driving particularly well at times. In the semi-final of the same event, played earlier in tbe afternoon, France and Mrs. France defeated E. Sandral and Miss Whyte, 6—3, 7—5.
