CHAMPIONS AGAIN

Otago Rowing “Eight” CONTEST AT PICTON Wellington Breaks Poppet By Telegraph—Press Association. Pictoii, March 27. What was easily the finest contest to date in the short history of the Interprovincial eight-oared rowing championship of New Zealand saw Otago win the title for the fourth consecutive time from five other provincial crews on Picton harbour yesterday afternoon. Though rowing conditions were by no means impossible, it was a punishing racd all the way against a head wind and an outgoing tide. The form displayed by all crews was of an excellent standard, the rowing generally attaining a high order. Otago was first to break the liue of a perfect start, and was never headed from start to finish. Canterbury staged a determined chase over the whole two miles, rowing stylishly, and finishing very gamely in second place. Marlborough created a sensation, for, after rowing in second to last place, staged a brilliant sprint over the final quarter-mile, to get third place. Auckland was the surprise packet of the race. Rowing prominently all the way, the northerners finished fourth. Wanganui disappointed badly, failing over the last part of the race. YVellington, which was unlucky to break a poppet soon after the start, was last all through the race. Detailed results: — Otago (F. Brough str., J. Soloman, 8. Clark, A. B. Johnson, L. Fountain, D.
