Australian Visit Asked

TOURNEY ARRANGEMENTS Dominion Special Service. 4 Masterton, January 12. Tentative arrangements for the visit to Masterton of the touring Australian’s women’s tennis team were made at a meeting of the Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association last night. The actual date of the visit has not yet been fixed, but it was decided to apply to the Wellington association for leave to invite Mesdames H. M. Dykes, W. J. Melody and W. Sturman and Miss Dulcie Nicholls to play against the visitors at Masterton. It is hoped also to arrange matches between the visitors and leading Wairarapa women players.

Final arrangements were made In connection with the Wairarapa tournament, entries for which close next Saturday. The tournament is to commence on Wednesday, January 20. Subject to confirmation by the associations concerned, the following dates were approved for inter-associa-tion matches: Against Wellington, on February 6, at Martinborough; against Manawatu, on February 20, at Palmerston North; against Wanganui, on February 27, at Carterton. The Hawke’s Bay association is being asked whether it would prefer to send a team to Wairarapa or receive a visit from, a Wairarapa team early in March. It was decided to offer the position of honorary coach to the association to Mr. Erie Einam, of Palmerston North. This means that Mr. Einam

is offered the opportunity of acting as a professional coach in the Wairarapa district with the approval of the governing association, which, however, incurs no obligation. ,

Inter-club Competition. As time will not permit there will be no additional rounds in the association’s A and B grade inter-club competitions. It is recommended that clubs should make arrangements for friendly matches. Further results of matches played on Saturday are as follow: — B Grade. —Playing on the Masterton club’s courts, Masterton defeated Eketahuna by 15 matches to 9, the varioiis sections resulting as follow: —Men’s singles: Masterton 2, Eketahuna 4. Women’s singles: Masterton 4, Eketahuna 2. Men's doubles: Masterton 1, Eketahuna 2. Women’s doubles: Masterton 3, Eketahuna 0- Combined doubles: Masterton 5, Eketahuna 1. C Grade.—A match played on the Carterton courts between the Carterton and Greytown C grade teams, resulted in a win for the visitors by 16 sets to 8, or 166 games to 130. The Martinborough team disposed of Dalefield on its own courts by 18 sets to 6 after a rather easily contested match. Parkvale experienced no difficulty in defeating the Carterton Methodist club’s representatives by 20 sets to 4, or 143 games to 88.
