15 Convictions Since 1926
Dominion Special Service. Masterton, January 12. Fifteen convictions for vagrancy since 1926 was the record of Edward Percy Heyes, a farm labourer, aged 49 years, who appeared in the Mastertpn Police Court this morning charged with being a rogue and a vagabond. Sergeant T. H. Dyer said that accused had been loitering about Masterton 'for the past ten or. fourteen days and had been sleeping out in the parks. . Yesterday a complaint had been received that he had taken some lemons from outside a shop. When arrested, he was in a very dirty .condition, and had no money. The sergeant added that it would be a blessing if Heyes was sent away to be cleaned up. After studying accused’s record Messrs. E. G. Eton and C. M. Bowden, Justices of the Peace, sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
