Officers Serve as Seamen PORT GISBORNE’S CREW London, December 13. The “Sunday Express” says that the steamer Port Gisborne has arrived at Hull from New Zealand with eighteen young qualified ships’ officers serving in the.fo’c’sle because no posts are available. Senior officers said that the young men entered on the articles sportingly. They had no privileges, and lived the same arduous life as ordinary seamen. The scheme had the approval of the National Union of Seamen, but it is feared that the Australian unions will not approve it. It is stated that all the young men have signed on for a voyage to Australia this week.
