SCHOOL CRICKET
Wellington Beats Manawatu Some very bright cricket Avas seen in the annual match between teams representing the primary schools of Wellington and Manawatu on Kelburn Park. The local lads proved too strong for the visitors, winning the senior match by an innings and 131 runs, and the junior match by an innings and 22 runs. In the senior match. Wellington batted first, and ran up the solid total of 260, the principal scorers being Parker (89), Gates (42). aind McCann (38). Carlisle, who took five wickets, was the most successful bowler- for Manawatu. Manawatu could only respond with 35 and 103 (Collis 33, Richardson 32.) Bush was in great form with the ball for Wellington, securing five wickets for 4 runs off six overs. Kenney took two for 4. Wiffen one for 4, Young one for 3. and Lawton one for 4. Kenny secured three wickets, Lawton four, and Bush. Wiffen, and Young one each in Manawatu's second innings. In the junior match. Manawatu totalled 24 (Cameron 13) and 32 (Lowe 13), and Wellington scored 78 (McCarthy 33. Bloomfield 17, Needham 10). Bowling for Wellington. Parker took four for 13, Merrick four for 11. and Needham two for 0. Merrick captured five wickets in the second innings. Parker two. and Needham two. The best bowlers for Manawatu were Cameron (six for 36), and Unbone, who took three wickets.
