MEESKE BEATS ALLEY
Two Falls to One PALMERSTON WRESTLING Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, December 11. Before a crowded house to-night, Billy Meeske (Australia) ,light-heavy-weight champion of the world, defeated Tom Aliev (America) in the fifth round of'an eight-round contest, by two falls to one. Alley scaled 13st. 81b and Meeske 13st. 41b. The contest was willing and exciting, Alley having the advantage of strength, but Meeske having cleverness and speed. In the first round Meeske gave Alley a little trouble with a painful wristlock. Alley, however, broke the hold with his knee. Alley threw Meeske by kicking his feet from under him, but from a wristhold Meeske broke away to get Alley pinned. Alley again secured Meeske, who soon got out. Shortly after the opening of the second round Alley threw Meeske and worked a head scissors and arm bar for the first fall. In the third round Meeske gave Alley several painful wrist holds, which caused him to use his closed fists on several occasions. In addition, Meeske touched several sensitive nerves, much to Alley’s discomfort. In the fourth round Meeske secured a. fall with an arm bar and a body press after getting Alley in several dangerous positions. In the few seconds of the fifth round Meeske fought for Alley’s wrist .which he secured and received the winning submission fall to gain a popular verdict.
