Wellington Club Opening FIRST RACING RESULTS The opening of the Wellington Swimming Club’s season took place at the Te • Aro Baths on Saturday afternoon. Races held during the afternoon attracted entries from many outside clubs in addition to those from Wellington members. The opening ceremony was performed "by Mr. W. J. Gaudin, who, in addressing those present, remarked that swimming in Wellington at present was experienc- ■ ing lean times, but he was sure the spirit of confidence, a lesson of swimming itself, would put the sport on its feet again. He expressed the opinion that swimming was a subject which should be taught in all primary schools. Results of the 50yd. events were as follow Worser Bay Club Handicap (first distance for Brodie Cup).—C. Young (12sec.), 1; G. Bell (6sec.), 2; N. Jones (Osec.), 3. Time, 40sec. Hutt Club Handicap.—H. Warburton (4sec.), 1; B. Gellatte (scr.), 2; J. Cleland (3see.), 3. Time, 30 l-ssec. Miramar Club Handicap.—G. East (ssec.), 1; E. Gill (2sec.), 2; E. Raven (3sec.), 3. Time, 29 4-ssec. Wellington Club Handicap.—Wilkinson (ssec.), 1; Gainey (flsec.), 2; W. Cook (Bsec.), 3. Time, 28 2-ssec. Lyall Bay Club Handicap.—R. L. McIntyre (4sec.), 1: A. Buchan (ssec.), 2; B. J.
