RUNAWAY PLANE
Woman Pilot’s Mishap AN UNEXPECTED START Struck down by an aeroplane, at Rongotai Airport yesterday morning, when she had swung the propeller, Mrs. A. Iremonger, the club's first woman pilot, was slightly injured. The machine was not seriously damaged. Mrs. Iremonger had been flying, and having made a landing was about to take off again when the engine choked. Squad-ron-Leader G. L. Stedman, the pilot instructor, sent a mechanic out to “swing the prop” for her, but before he could reach the machine, the pilot had alighted, nnd performed the task herself. She had forgotten, before she climbed from the cockpit, to close the throttle. As soon as the engine picked up, the machine ran forward, and Mrs. Iremonger, who had moved clear of the whirling propeller, was knocked down by the wing. The aeroplane continued to move forward, and. gathering speed, ran about 50 yards, nnd then capsized, damaging the propeller. Mrs. Iremonger was not serious!” hurt, and anart. from the damage to the propeller* the machine was only slightly strained.
