Talk of Postponement AMERICAN OPPOSITION Move Attributed to France VIEWS TO BE EXPRESSED By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright (Rec. September 3, 5.5 p.m.) Washington, September 2. . The Acting-Secretary of State, Mr. W. R. Castle, lias expressed opposition to a movement attributed to France to postpone the Geneva general Disarmament Conference scheduled for next February. Mr. Castle said that the American Government would strongly express its views on the matter, feeling that a reduction of expenditures on armaments at this time was one of the most Important questions before the world. The postponement of the conference, he added, would have a bad psychological effect on the peoples who had been led to believe that something substantial would be done at Geneva. ARMED BUT PEACEFUL Proper Course for Nations A RESOLUTION IN CANADA Vancouver, September 2. At Niagara Falls, the Canadian Legion Convention passed a resolution Which declares that war should have no place in the civilised world, and supports the League of Nations’ Disarmament Plan. It states, however, that the resolution is not to be taken as approving disarmament by individual nations, and it is the duty of Canada to maintain adequate armed forces. A proposal to request the Government to legalise sweepstakes was rejected.
