MINIATURE RIFLES

Grade Match Results CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE

(By

“Aperture.")

Fixtures. August 24-September s.—Whitcombe and Caldwell Cup competition. B Grade— Eighth Round. The eighth round of B grade miniature rifle matches resulted in wins for South, PWMC Pctone Central, and Brooklyn Ladies' “Evening Post,” Hutt, Petone Ladles and Port Nicholson Ladies. Wins on ■'home" range 5, away 3. ... The standard of marksmanship is very satisfactory, and curiously enougn exactly the same aggregate of 7394 was made in the seventh round. The 56 competitors ni the A section aggregated 3722 points, an average of 66.40; and the same number in the B section aggregated 3672 points, an avorago of 65.57. The mean average is 06.02. Once again South’s superb score of 481 makes It easily the best. As was expected, the match between South and Public Service resulted in the best combined H grade score of the season, namely, 950. The most closely contested match was that between Port Nicholson Ladles and Harbour Board, though it must be confessed that Harbour Board’s score was much below form. Two ladies’ teams achieved their first wins against no mean opponents. “Evening Post” and Petone Ladles improved on previous scores by. ’J and 8 points respectively. “Evening Post's’’ performance is excellent, and besides being tho second highest score of this round, is that club’s own record shoot. Petone Ladies, though not shining in the championship, has consistently improved, indeed has not looked back since it made the rather low score of 440 In the first round. It is almost certain that P.W.M.C. and South teams in tbc A section will meet Hutt in the B section in the shoot-off for the championship. The ultimate result cannot be prognosticated, but South’s form in the last four rounds has been eminently satisfactory. Possible honours in this round were gained by A. K. Craig (Public Service), E. R. S. Garrett (South), and J. Staples (South). Garrett and Staples have now scored 4 and 2 possibles respectively. Garrett's performance is outstanding, and easily surpasses any other like achievement in the B grade. Detailed scores follow:— A Section. South.—E. R. S. Garrett, 70; J. Staples, 70; R. Boddy, 69; A.
