OBITUARY

Mrs. L. G. Welch The death occurred at her residence, Upner Plain, Masterton, on Sunday morning. of Mrs. Louisa Isabella Welch, relict of the late Mr. W. J. Welch, at the age of 66 years, reports a “Dominion” Special Service message from Masterton The late Mrs. Welch had been ill for a short period. She is survived by a son, Mr. Percy Welch, and two daughters, Miss I, Welch and Mrs. T. H. Horton, all of Upper Plain. Mr. J. Park The death is announced by a Press Association message from Hokitika of Mr. James Park, Crown Prosecutor for Westland, at the age of 77 years. He leaves a widow and grown-up family. He died yesterday morning. The late Mr. Park was born at Lyttelton in 1854, and was the son of Mr. G. M. Park, who arrived in Otago by the ship Philip Laing in 1848. He was educated at Otago University and later articled to the legal firm of Joyce and Adams. In 1883 he was admitted to the Bar and had since practised at Hokitika. ,Mr. J. Hepworth After having resided at Palmerston North for over forty years, Mr. John Hepworth, who was well known and highly esteemed, passed away at Palmerston North on Sunday in his 94th year, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. Born in 1838, one year after the accession of Queen Victoria, the late Mr. Hepworth saw many changes in Great Britain and the Empire. He migrated from Batley, Yorkshire, to Western Australia in 1875, with his wife, whom he had married in 1858. After working on various sheep stations he returned to England, and eighteen months later he again migrated, this time to New Zealand. The late Mr. Hepworth’s first wife died in 1899. and in ,1902 he married Miss J. F. Bannister, daughter of an old Wellington family. Deceased is Survived by 'his widow, two sons, Messrs. H. and E. Hepworth, of Palmerston North, and two daughters (Mrs. J. G. Mayo, Palmerston North, and Mrs. Percival, Melbourne). Over a score of grandchildren are living, and there are a number of great-grand-children. There are five generations of the family Jiving in two directions and four in two other directions. Before coming to Palmerston North deceased lived at Kaiapoi, Ashburton,.and Petone. Sister Mary Elizabeth There died at the Sacred Heart Convent, St. John's Hili. Wanganui, on Thursday, says a “Dominion” Special Service message, after a long illness, one of the best-known of the Sisters of St. Joseph—Sister Mary. Elizabeth. The late Sister Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gallagher. of Greytown, and a cousin of the Very Rev. Father T. Segrief. S.M.. Reetor of St. John’s College. Lismore. New South Wales. She is survived by her sisters. Mesdames Day (Wellington), Bennett (Hewera). Rhodes (Greytown). Arthur (Wellington), and Misses Gallagher (Grey town). Entering the Wanganui Convent 32 years ago. Sister M. Elizabeth was stationed at various periods at the convents in Hastings, I’atea. Waipawa. St. Mary's. Wanganui, and Ohakune. Requiem Mass at the convent chapel was celebrated on Saturday morning by th? Rev. Father Galerne, S.M., convent chaplain, assisted by Rev. Fathers Iloare, La Croix, Ainsworth (of the city), and Rev. Father Broughton. Feilding. The music of the Mass was given by the Sisters’ choir, and the ceremony at the graveside was conducted hy the Rev.
