A meeting of the Lower Hutt Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held last Week, when there was a good attendance. Tho president,. Mrs. Lopdell, presided, and Mrs. Spencer took the devotional portion of the meeting. A! letter from the Peace Arbitration was read, and forms enclosed, as a petition for disarmament Some of the members took forms in order to secure signatures. A delegate was appointed to attend the alliance meeting, also one to attend the Area Council, each to report next meeting what is done concerning the no-llcense question. The treasurer, Mrs. Aldersley, presented her report in connection with the campaign funds, and aSter some accounts were passed for payment there was still £4/11/3 in hand. Mrs. Taft gave a comprehensive report of the district executive meeting held recently. She reported that good work was being done by all the organisers. Workshops, factories, shops, land homes had been visited, and literature distributed, and they had everywhere received a splendid hearing. Mrs. Crawford was appointed delegate to Hie annual'district convention to be held in Masterton on October 1. A paper on "The objects and aims of the W.C.T.U.” was read by Mrs. Crawford, and she also gave a short talk on "Our pledge, what does it mean to us?” Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses for tlic day being Mrs. Clark and Mrs. W. Clark.
