DESTRUCTION' OF TREES
Dismay at Eastbourne There is dismay among a large number of people at Eastbourne at what is considered the quite unnecessary destruction of trees along the Muritai Road from the Council Chambers corner to Puriri Street. A "Dominion” reporter visited the locality pn Saturday and counted fifteen trees that had been bereft of all their branches.. They presented a none too pleasing contrast with the trees that had not been touched. It was pointed out that most of these trees were planted by residents of Eastbourne when children going to the Eastbourne School. People can find no valid reason for the destruction. It cannot be contended that they interfere with visibility to users of the road or'that they shut- out the light from any houses. They are not on the footpath and they are well back from the road, which is practically a straight one and very wide. With their foliage they were one of Eastbourne’s scenic beauties.
