MRS. K. EVANS HONOURED

Splendid Work in Peace Cause At the conclusion of Mr. Combs's lecture on "Education for World Citizenship” on Thursday night, given under the auspices of the Wellington branch of the League of Nations Union, advantage was taken of the occasion to make a presentation to Mrs. Evans, the retiring secretary, which took the form of a cheque. Dr. Gibb, Dominion president, expressed regret that, owing to ill-health. Mrs. Evans was relinquishing the secretaryship. He referred to her devotion to the interests of the League of Nations Union, her broad-mindedness, and' her unfailing sense of duty. He also mentioned that Mrs. Evans was not only the first woman graduate in New Zealand, but the first woman M.A in the British Empire. Dr. Gibb concluded his remarks by reading the following resolution passed at a recent meeting of the Dominion Council of the League of Nations Union: The Dominion executive of the League of Nations Union sincerely regret that failing health has constrained Mrs. K. M. Evans, M.A., to tender her resignation as the executive’s secretary, and place on record their high appreciation . of the service she has rendered the union through almost all the years of Its existence. She has discharged with rare fidelity and efficiency the always laborious and often difficult duties of her office. Her keen and disciplined mentality and whole-hearted devotion have been an asset of 'great worth to the union and the objects for which It stands—the furtherance of the League of Nations and the cause of International peace. In accepting her resignation the executive most heartily thank her for what has been to her a labour of love and to them a service of enduring value. Mrs. Evans, in voicing her thanks, said that she had always loved the work of the League of Nations Union, and although she was no longer secretary she intended to help on the movement in. every possible way.
