REMARKS AT MEETING

’ Absences of Member EXPLANATION ASKED FOR Masterton, August 28. At the last meeting of the Walrarapa Secondary Education Board 'reference was made to the continued absence of the Rev. W. Bullock, of Wellington, from board meetings, and suggestions were made that he should resign. As last night’s meeting of the board the Rev. W. Bulloek was present, and explained that though he was not surprised that the matter had come forward, he was surprised at the manner In which it had done so. No one regretted more than he, he said, his enforced absence from meetings, but when he consented »to election bo was unaware that he would be leaving Master ton. It had been Bald at the meeting that “There was no technical barrier to his remaining on the board, and that he had a moral right to resign," This ho took to mean that he had a moral obligation to resign, and this he' would do If the other two members who were elected at the same time as he was would also hand In their resignations. There had been quite a lot of animosity on the board, and he was sorry that he was not present when an attack had been made on a perfectly honourable member of the board, Mr. G. Selby. It was not wise that this should become a habit. If tho two members to whom he referred did not accept his proposal, then he would continue to hold his seat, for he did not consider the matter of amalgamation closed. Mrs. Barter (chairwoman) said that her action In bringing the matter forward was not premeditated. Her reason for thinking that Mr. Bullock had a moral obligation to resign was his non-attendance at board meetings. If a member could not attend meetings then be should resign. She had not meant to be offensive. "I am sorry If I have been discourteous, but it was not my wish or Intention,” she said. The Rev. W. Bullock expressed himself as satisfied with the explanation.
