VALLEY RAILWAY
Advocacy, of Extension, UNITED EFFORT PLANNED / • A united effort ia being made by local bodies in the Hutt Valley to have the railway line extended from Waterloo to Silverstream. The prime mover on this occasion is the Upper Hutt Borough Council A conference of delegates from the Upper Hutt, Petone and Lower Hutt Boroughs and the Hutt County Council has already been called. Later a deputation will probably wait on the Government, • A previous deputation to the Government received a reply that was considered not definite enough. At present there are proclamations over land along the proposed route in the Taita district. The necessity of the- railway extension was stressed at a meeting of ratepayers held in Stokes Valley, and Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., promised to give any application his support. j It was stated that the line would reduce the distance between Waterloo and Silverstream to four milees. All the local bodies, agree that the construction of the line would be a firstclass unemployment relief work.
