DORNE CUP

Inter-club Harriers WIN FOR SCOTTISH Fine Individual Race , " The annual race for the Dome Cup, held at Hutt Bark on Saturday, provided one of the keenest harrier contests seen since the inception of the event eight seasons ago. The teams’ race and the cup were won by the Scottish Harriers, G. Prosser taking the individual honour. The race was held over two laps of the old provincial course, starting and finishing on the -straight on the course. The weather was gloriously fine, and although the trail was led across many bogs and creeks swelled by recent rains, fast times were registered. The five Wellington clubs entered and are desiguated as follow; Scottish, S; Wellington, W; Olympic, O; Brooklyn, B; and Hutt Valley, H. The Race Described. . A fine spectacle was presented by the 145 runners in their coloured singlets when they were let away in a great .bunch by Mr. G. Dome. Running down the straight, changing their order frequently, the runners set a Hot pace. F.’B. Silver (S) forced the pace and led past Gracefield Road, closely followed by L. A. Sinclair (S), C.. Carter (O), L. Carmichael (H), Stevens (S), J. Bibby (B), D. Pedersen (B), G. Prosser (B). Silver, however, failed to retain the lead, and for the next mile the leaders were constantly changing places. The finish of the first lap, which was run in 15min. 15sec., saw Sinclair in the lead, Prosser, trailing in a handy position. Then- came, at close intervals, Stevens (S), Pedersen (B), Silver (S), Carmichael (H), Carter (O), Kiug (H), Bibby (B), McKinnon (W), Campbell (O), Smith (S), Olifert (S), and Buchanan (S). The Hutt Valley and Olympic men were bunched well back. The passing of the oil works saw a big change in positions. Prosser Takes Lead. Prosser put forth a great effort and secured a lead from Sinclair of 30 yards, which he increased to 40 at Grace-field Road. Men who had not been nearer than the first dozen had now come into the picture, MeConchic (W) and Bibby (B) being notables. As the runners reached the park again Prosser was still in a handy position, with Sinclair, closing up slowly. Stevens still was lying third, Carmichael having disposed of Pedersen. ' Sinclair soon lengthened his stride and set out after Prosser,. who put in a great finish, Sin-, clair being 20 yards back. Stevens had not enough .pace left to pick up when Carmichael stole a march on him 30 yards from the tape. The following are the results of the individual section :— G. Prosser (B.). The members of the team received bronze medals. The Hutt- Valley club’s' gold medal to the first man home was received by G. Prosser.
