UPPER HUTT BOROUGH

At the last meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council, when the mayor, Mr. A. J. McCurdy, presided, it was decided to defer until consideration of the estimates the question of making a grant to the Upper Hutt branch of the Pluuket Society. The overdraft of the borough at the bank stands at over £6OOO. A resolution was passed by the council to increase the overdraft to £9OOO, which, it .was stated, would be within the legal limit. In connection with the renting of a ground at Maidstone Park, the Upper Hutt Association Football Club is to be asked to endeavour to make arrangements to pay the rental by the end of July, or explain why it requires an extension. It was mentioned during the discussion tha' no arrangements had been made for the hockey people to pay rental for their ground as it was a ground well below the standard size. A letter was received stating that the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Associa lion had allocated £5O for the relief of unemployed returned soldiers, leaving the council and the Upper Hutt branch to decide on the details of the expenditure. The question is to be looked into as to whether non-financial members of the as sociation are to be included in the relief.
