AUTUMN EXHIBITION

N.Z. Academy of Fine Arts OFFICIAL OPENING Dr. A. D. Canberry, the president of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, opened the autumn exhibition in the presence of a large; gathering of members and their friends in the Whitmore Street gallery on Saturday. He referred sympathetically to the death of Mr. H. M. Gore, so well known in. New Zealand and so much missed by his friends. He also touched ou the loss that art in Wellington had sustained in the death of tho Hou. T. Shailer Weston. The exhibition includes a number of much-discussed pictures, and although there were rather too many people present to view them comfortably, an enjoyable evening was spent. Supper was served as usual. Many charming frocks were seen peeping from under warm wraps and evening cloaks. The vogue for jewellery was very apparent, and a great many of the women present were intensely interested in the hand-made jewellery display.
