BEAU CAVALIER

“Breakdown After Schooling RETIREMENT PROBABLE Dominion Special Service. Auckland, May 20. For some time past the Great Northern candidate, Beau Cavalier, has been working on the hills, and has acquired fairly good condition. To-day he was brought out early in the afternoon to jump the steeplechase fences at Ellerslie. He gave his usual slashing display, but was noticed to falter badly after jumping the first of the double. He recovered in great style to complete his task, but was very lame on pulling up. The breakdown is evidently serious, and he can be written out for the winter, and possibly for good. Owing to the probability of a wet track at Te Awamutu on Saturday, Jamieson has decided not to start Chief Joy or Clopton.
