Fat Lambs and Beef Firm LIGHT EWES ADVANCE By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, May 20. Entries at the Addington market to-day were not as heavy as at recent markets, and generally the auctions were keen. The principal features were the keen sale for fat lambs, a better tone in the beef market, and an advance in values for light ewes In the fat sheep section. Store Sheep.—A steady sale with better class wethers and ewes showing an improvement in values. Values were: Extra good ewe lambs to 14/-; good, 10/- to 12/4; good wether lambs to 10/-; good mixed sex lambs, 10/6 to 12/5; backward lambs, 4/- to 5/-; good two-tooth half bred wethers, 13/-; good four and six-tooth halfbred wethers, 10/- to 12/-; good two-tooth three-quarter-bred wethers, 12/- to 13/4; backward wethers. 5/- to 7/-; ordinary two-tooth half bred ewes to 12/6; ordinary six and eight-tooth halfbred ewes to 9/6; good four-year crossbred ewes to 11/4. Fat Lambs. —An entry of 2100 head met with a very keen sale; export buyers operated freely and the schedule price of ojd was exceeded by id in case of some lines penned. Values were: Extra prime lambs to 22/1; prime, 17/6 to 19/-; medium, 16/to 17/3; light, 12/6 to 15/3; store lambs, 11/- to 12/-.

Fat Sheep.—An entry of 5100 head. Light ewes recorded an advance of 1/6 to 2/- a head, while heavier sorts showed little alteration. Values were: Extra prime wethers to 19/10; prime, 14/- to 16/6; medium, 11/6 to 13/9: light, 8/6 to 11/-: extra prime ewes, 14/9; prime, 11/6 to 13/-; medium, 10/- to H/6; light, 8/6 to 9/0; aged, 6/6 to 8/-. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 254. head, the smallest yarded for many weeks. The market responded a little to. the shortness of the supply and best beef advanced about £1 a head, but there was little alteration in values for plain and unattractive types. Best beef made 29/- to 32/6 per 1001 b; good prime beef, 24/- to 27/6; ordinary beef to 23/-; good heifer beef to 28/-; good cow beef to 22/-; ordinary, 15/- to 18/-; rough down to 11/-. Values were: Extra prime heavy steers to £l6/12/6; prime, £ll to £l3/10/-; medium weight. £B/10/- to £lO 10/-; ordinary quality, £7 to £B/5/-; light to £6/10/-: extra prime heifers to £9/17/6; prime, £6/15/- to £B/15/-; medium, £4/10/- to £6/10/-: light to £4; extra prime cows to £lO/17/6; prime, £6 10/- to £B/10/-; medium, £4 to £6: light cows to £3/10/-. There was a smaller entry of fat pigs than for some weeks past, and there was a firm and steady demand with a slight increase in values. Values were: Choppers, £2/10/- to £3/11/-; baconers. 47/6 to 57/6; heavy baconers, 1 £.3 to £3/15/6; average price per pound, 4}d to sjd; porkers, 35/to 40/-; heavy porkers, 41/- to 46/6; average price per pound, 6d to 7id.

At the weekly sale at Stortford Lodge there was a heavy yarding of stock In all sections. The beef entry had drafts from several well-known stations, and the quality of one draft was excellent, being considerably better than last week’s offering, but prices were rather easier, ranging from £B/17/6 to £lO/1/-. Extra prime Hereford bullocks realised £lO/11/-, the best price of the day. One extra prime, Hereford Shorthorn heifer realised £7/2/-. All classes •of beef sold at slightly reduced prices, prime ox realising 21/- to 22/- per 1001 b; prime heifer cow beef, 17/- to 19/per 1001 b; plain beef sold at 2/6 a 1001 b. The market was oversupplied and vendors passed several pens. Store Sheep.—A large entry of store sheep was yarded, with further consignments from Gisborne: 325 two-tooth wethers, small to medium, 6/10; 226 f. and f. wethers; 155 b.f. lambs, medium size and condition, 8/4; 293 four, six and eighttooth ewes i.l. to Romney, heavy-skinned, 9/1; 168 f.’and f. wethers. 9/-; two-tooth wethers, small, low condilton, 5/8; 256 f. and f. wethers passed at 9/-. Fat Sheep.—Lambs, 9/6 to 15/10; wethers, 7/- to 13/6: ewes, 7/- to 10/-.

Market Slightly Easier

Auckland, May 20. Comparatively heavy yardings came forward to most seetloiis of the weekly Westfield fat stock sale to-day. Prices held fairly steady around recent levels in most sections, but there was not the strength in the market shown a fortnight to three weeks ago. The beef market eased by approximately 1/- per 1001 b. Best ox' sold up to 25/- per 1001 b, but butchers taking any quantity of prime, beef were able to average out around 22/- to 23/- per 1001 b. Prime heifer beef made practically the same price ns steers, but old cows sold down as low as 10/- per 1001 b. Calves met with rather a dragging sale and values eased; well-finished calves made up to 50/-. but prime vealers generally sold around 30/- to 40/-. , ' The tat sheep market inclined' to be slightly easier, good quality prime wethers selling at from 13/6 to 15/9; a few extra heavy lines making more money. Prime lambs made around export parity of 51d a Il>.

The fat pig section contained more than tlie usual percentage of porkers, and the market for these was inclined to be slightly easier. Baconers sold at about last week's prices, averaging around 5d a lb.

Lambs Dull of Sale At the Johnsonville sale yesterday, Wright, Stephenson and Abraham & Williams Ltd. offered a large yarding of all classes of stock. Cattle. —There was a full yarding, comprising 253 head of bullocks, cows, heifers, and vealers. Heavy bullocks were easier by 5/- to 10/- per head, as compared with last week'su rates. Medium and lightweight bullocks were on a par. Cows and heifers showed a decline of up to 15/per head. Vealers met with a good sale.
