IN PUBLIC LIFE
Teachers Congratulated
The congratulations of the Hutt Valley Primary Schools’ Headmasters’ Association were extended yesterday to Messrs. J. 0. Burns (Petone West School) and A. Mcßain (Eastern Hutt School) on their election so high up on the poll of councillors in Petone and Lower Hutt respectively. Miss M Magill, a teacher of the Eastbourne School, was also congratulated on her election to the Eastbourne Council. “We are delighted with the result of the elections,” said Mr.. Wilson, the chairman. “It is a very good thing for the Hutt Valley Headmasters’ Association that two of its members should be rej turned so high on; the poll, Mr. Burns ’ as No. 1 in Petone and Mr. Mcßain as No. 2 in Lower Hutt. ■
“It- is a very fine thing indeed to see teachers taking part in public life,” he continued. “There is no doubt that the result showed the position the teachers hold in the public estimation. It is unique that three teachers should stand in the valley and get high positions on their respective councils.” Returning thanks, both Mr. Burns and Mr. Mcßain said they regarded the honour done them by the electors as much an hondur to the profession as to themselves. <
