Influence of Christianity ■. r - A defence of the connection between Christianity and commerce was inalle by Mr. D. A. Ewen when addressing the Congregational Men's League; at the Cambridge Terrace Hall. “Commerce,” he said, “is inseparable from modern life, and in it there is nothing which need be incompatible with Christianity. Indeed, oue might say that sound business must be based bn many of the' attributes of religion. No business deal is a good deal which does not give satisfaction to both parties.” Mr. Ewen sketched the great improvement that had been seen in the course of time in the conditions of life in factories and read extracts from ’ Dean Inge’s- “England,” which showed by contrast the immense change that the conscience of mankind had affected in commercial life.
