The first contest for the Ladles’ Shield resulted in a win for the Hutt Valley ladies’ team (Incidentally its first win), with the record score of 531 (average 66.37). Each team consisted of eight ladies —seven shots each, a maximum team score of 560. Six teams competed, and the 48 competitors averaged 64.48. This season promises in many respects to lie a record one for the Brooklyn Miniature Rifle Club. On May 9 the old range in Bruce Avenue will be replaced by a more commodious and up-to-date one situated a short distance from the present range, on the right-hand side of Bruce Avenue. The new home of the Brooklyn club provides a four-target butt, well lighted and arranged, with ample accommodation at Hie mound. Tlie April competitions of tlie South club resulted as follow:—A grade: First trophy, R. Congreve, 209 (possible 210); second trophy, P. Congreve, 207. B grade: First trophy, J. S. Priestley, 20G—2—208; second trophy, J. Culling, 205 —2—207. The Congreve .Tug shoot’ ended in a tie between It. Congreve (70) and J. S. Priestley (70). On being shot oil R. Congreve proved the winner by one point over Priestley. Tlie club's silver badge for highest rifle score among the boy members was won by Priestley, with a score of 200 (possible 210). During, the month possibles were scored by the following members in club competitions: R. Congreve (2), Ahlers, Priestley and Woolston, and in outside competitions by Tomlin, Neilson and P. Congreve.
