Petone Club’s Season

Tlie Petone Rifle Club fired the final shoot for the extra short range, handicap series, at Trentham on Saturday, at ranges of 300, 500 and GOO yards. There was a good attendance for so late in the season, and the shooting conditions were perfect. At 300 yards R. 11. Nlcholl topped th_e scoring with 34 out of the possible 35, followed by J. Ashman and W. Jackson with 33 caeh. and four members with 31 each. At 500 yards R. H. Nicholl scored the possible 35, and three members, W. Johnston, F. Kershaw and W. Mclver, were next with. 34 each, followed by J. Ashman, A. Ballinger, C. Lusty and W. H. Ballinger with 33 each. The scoring at COO yards continued on the high standard. R. il. Nicholl scored another possible here, followed by W. Mclver (34). J. Ashman, O. Pedersen and P. Stewart (33 each), and W. Johnston and F. Harris (32 each). With an aggregate off the gun of IQ4 out of the possible 105, R. 11. Nicholl established a Trentham record, and he was congratulated by all fellow competitors on his brilliant performance. By consistent tall scoring Nicholl won the club championship against very strong competitors, and Saturday’s shooting certainly crowned a successful season's achievements. J. Ashman (a new member this season) was next on the list with a good 99, followed by W. Johnston (97), F. Kershaw (95), O. Pedersen and A. Ballinger (94 each). The spoon winners for the day were R. H. Niclioll and J. Ashman. With an aggregate of 298 put of the possible 310, R. H. Nicholl wins the final series. The veteran champion, A. Ballinger, fired very consistently throughout the series and occupied second place with an aggregate of 284, followed by IV. Jackson (283), O. Pedersen (281), W. Johnston (280), E. Ballinger (280), F. Kershaw (2SO), J. Ashman (280), and J. Braid (280). The shooting right throughout this final series has been of a very high standard, and justified the prolonging of the club season. -——•
